The Department of Mechanical Structures and Product Engineering Design was established by the decision of the University of East Sarajevo, during the period of the University’s development and improvement of the quality of work, when awareness of the need to separate scientific and educational fields and the need to determine the home base of the study of individual teaching and scientific fields matured (2012-2013).

Of course, the Department inherits the tradition and uses the good practice of similar departments in BiH, but also in the entire former Yugoslavia, as well as the current departments in neighboring countries, with which it has exceptional cooperation in the field of knowledge exchange and joint activities, through the implementation of projects and the organization of joint conferences and gatherings.

Mechanical construction, design, creation, new ideas, innovative solutions are as old as humanity, and today the activities carried out within this department are much more than that. The imperative for the development of every society, industry, and mechanical engineering in particular, is the development of new products and mechanical systems, in order to meet the demands of the modern market and the need to satisfy customer requirements, to the level of their individual wishes. Therefore, the subjects studied within this department are very important for the future development of mechanical engineering and industry as a whole.

Mechanical construction and product engineering design encompass the study of components of mechanical systems of general and special importance for the field of mechanical engineering, their construction, calculation, verification of load-bearing capacity and functionality, with the aim of solving practical, concrete problems encountered by mechanical engineers in practice.

In doing so, the latest knowledge in the field is used, as well as product development methods and techniques that are used in all developed countries of the world, with the help of equipment available at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in East Sarajevo.

The members of the department are highly educated and qualified teachers and associates, consisting of all employees of the University of East Sarajevo, who deal with topics in the scientific field of Mechanical Engineering, and also teach at other faculties that are not the main ones for the given field. This provides breadth in mutual cooperation and communication between all technical faculties of the University of East Sarajevo.
